| ANNUAL SURVEY OF INDUSTRIES YEAR 2001-2002 Statistics on Employment and Labour Cost in SAMPLE SECTOR |
PREFACE
The Annual Survey of Industries (ASI) is conducted annually under the Collection of Statistics Act, 1953 and the Rules framed there under in 1959. ASI Part-II Schedule, which contained labour statistics on Absenteeism, Labour Turnover, Earnings, Employment and Labour Cost, was canvassed with effect from the ASI 1961 Round. From ASI 1999-2000 Round, however, Block-IV and Block-V of ASI Part-II Schedule, which contained data on Employment and Labour Cost, were merged with Block-E of ASI Part-I Schedule.
The present publication presents statistics on Employment and Labour Cost for the year 2001-02 for Sample Sector and is based on Block-E of Part-I of the ASI Schedule. Raw data received from the Central Statistical Organisation (CSO), I. S. Wing, Kolkatta, were processed by the Labour Bureau and are being presented State-wise and Sector-wise at 3-Digit level of the NIC-1998. Statistics on Total Cost of Production and percentage share of Labour Cost on workers to the Total Cost of Production are also being published in this publication. We hope that the data presented in this publication would prove to be useful to the users. The publication meets the statutory obligation pertaining to Article 8 of Part-II of the ILO Convention No. 160 on labour statistics, which was ratified by India on April 1, 1992.
I take this opportunity to thank the officers of CSO, I. S. Wing, Kolkatta, not only for providing the raw data in time but also for their ready cooperation as and when required by Bureau. The officers/officials of the Field Operation Division of the National Sample Survey Organisation also deserve our appreciation for timely completion of the planning of the survey as well as canvassing of the ASI Schedule. The officers and staff of the ASI Section of Labour Bureau deserve appreciation for their sincere efforts for processing the data and bringing out the publication in quickest possible time.
Suggestions for further improvement in future ASI publications are welcome.
