5.1    COFFICIENT OF VARIANCE FOR WAGE RATES

 

The procedure and formulae used for determining the first stage sample size, have been given at Para 1.2 in Annexure-IV. For calculating the sample size, coefficient of variance of the average daily maximum wage rates are required for different industries. As the coefficient of variance normally does not change over a period of time, the same is calculated on the basis of the past data available. The coefficient of variance of average daily maximum wage rates, average daily minimum wage rates and average daily mean wage rates have been presented in Table 5.1 for calculating the sample size for the next round of Occupational Wage Surveys for the Tea Processing Industry. Based on the coefficients of variance of average daily maximum wage rates, first-stage sample size for the given industries have been worked out and presented in Table 5.2. The sample sizes have been calculated for the margin of error fraction of 0.05 and the level of significance at 90 percent, 95 percent as well as 99 percent.

5.2  WEIGHTING DIAGRAM FOR WAGE RATE INDEX NUMBERS

 

One of the main objective of the Occupational Wage Survey is to provide the bench mark data for constructing weighting diagram for the new series of the Wage Rate Index Numbers compiled by Labour Bureau. For the purpose, occupation-wise data on average daily employment and average daily mean wage rates within each stratum of Textile Garments Industry has been presented in Table 5.3. The average daily mean wage has been calculated as the mean of the average daily minimum and maximum wage rates.
