ALL-INDIA CONSUMER PRICE INDEX NUMBERS FOR
AGRICULTURAL AND RURAL LABOURERS ON BASE 1986-87=100 –DECEMBER, 2011
1. The All-India Consumer Price Index Numbers for Agricultural Labourers and Rural Labourers (Base: 1986-87=100) for December, 2011 decreased by 3 and 2 points respectively to stand at 618 (Six hundred and eighteen) points for Agricultural Labourers and 619 ( Six hundred and nineteen) points for Rural Labourers.
2. The fall/rise in index varied from State to State. In case of Agricultural Labourers, it recorded a decrease between 1 to 13 points in 18 States and an increase of 3 and 8 points in 2 States. Maharashtra with 689 points topped the index table whereas Himachal Pradesh with the index level of 509 points stood at the bottom.
3. In case of Rural Labourers, it recorded a decrease between 1 to 13 points in 15 States and an increase of 1 and 9 points in 2 States. It, however, remained stationary in 3 States. Maharashtra with 681 points topped the index table whereas Himachal Pradesh with the index level of 531 points stood at the bottom.
4. The Consumer Price Index Numbers for Agricultural Labourers and Rural Labourers in respect of Orissa State registered the maximum decrease of 13 points each mainly due to decrease in the prices of rice, ragi, onion and vegetables & fruits. The Consumer Price Index Numbers for Agricultural Labourers and Rural Labourers in respect of Tamil Nadu State registered the highest increase of 8 and 9 points respectively mainly due to increase in the prices of rice, milk, pan leaf, firewood and bus fare.
5 Point to point rate of inflation based on the CPI-AL and CPI-RL decreased from 8.95% and 9.14% in November,2011 to 6.37% and 6.72% respectively in December, 2011. Inflation based on food index is 2.37% in December, 2011 for both the series.

7. The CPI - AL/RL for January, 2012 will be released on 17th February, 2012 .
